One of the rising stars in North American pipe band drumming, L/D Eric MacNeill began his career at a very early age, studying tenor, bass, and snare while competing extensively as a drum major.

On the faculty of the Invermark College of Piping and Drumming and a guest instructor at the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band’s Piping Hot Summer Drummer, Eric is greatly in demand as a solo and band instructor, as well as a drum score composer and arranger.

Originally joining Oran Mor as the band’s D/M, Eric competed with the band as a tenor drummer in Grade III and in Grade II, before joining the snare line in 1999. Less than a year later, at age 16, he was elected Lead Drummer—becoming one of the youngest lead drummers for an upper grade band in North America. Since 2000, Eric has worked closely with Simon Fraser University Pipe Band L/D J. Reid Maxwell to develop the style and cohesiveness that characterize Oran Mor’s distinctive drum corps sound. Today, Eric is a professional snare, bass, and tenor solo competitor who brings a complex understanding of drum corps components and sounds to the work of his own corps and those he instructs. He is also the current and four-time EUSPBA Professional Champion Drum Major.
